International aspects of agricultural policy
This background document presents a full overview of the measures and actions that address the international dimension of agricultural policy. These include a wide variety of activities, which show how the EU is promoting and defending the EU agriculture sector in a changing world environment and contributing to sustainable economic development. The initiatives and measures set out in the following pages describe actions that, among other matters, are designed to secure export opportunities for EU producers; to manage import arrangements to meet the needs of EU consumers and the processing industry while taking account of sensitive production sectors; to promote growth and stability in developing countries and in the EU's neighbouring countries; and to uphold the rules-based global trading system in a way that takes account of the fundamental role of agriculture in ensuring food security.
