Looks like the executive committee of the World Summit on the Information Society (wsis), to be held at Geneva in December this year, is choosy about who should attend what is, purportedly, a conference seeking broadest possible participation. Some key non-governmental organizations have been denied accreditation by the wsis . Among those excluded are Human Rights in China (hric), an organisation addressing human rights issues in China, and Reporters Without Borders, an international association working for press freedom. Several human rights organisations are concerned that the draft declaration adopted at wsis would only end up enabling repressive regimes institute more control and censorship. These groups are now planning to draft an alternative declaration and organise parallel counter-activities during the summit in Geneva. They have appropriately named their initiative wsis? we seize!
