At the forefront

For the US, no country has been a thorn in its side like Brazil. The South American nation has emerged as a strong voice for the South, particularly at the WTO. A strong believer of South-South cooperation, Brazil sees it as a way of challenging the hegemony of the North in matters concerning trade.

Taking into consideration the success of the G-20 in Cancun, Brazil suggested the creation of a free trade agreement between its members. It has also led the way in creating closer cooperation between India, South Africa and itself, forming a partnership believed to driven towards the objective of securing permanent seats at the UN Security Council for all three.
