CLEAN OR QUIT

For the Delhi government, it is a case of do or die. It has been asked by the division bench of justice Kuldip Singh and Justice Saghir Ahmed to either keep the city clean or else forsake the seat of power. The order was the outcome of a petition filed by B L Wadehra, a legal activist. The New Delhi Municipal Council's counsel in an effort to pass the buck blamed the capital's citizens for getting the city dirty and complained that they lacked 'civic sense'. The court unimpressed by the counter-argument, reiterated that civic sense could be inculcated among the citizens. It has threatened to suspend officials if the cleaning work is left incomplete.
