DELAYED JUSTICE

William Snyder went through an open-heart surgery at St Joseph's Hospital in Paterson, US, in August 1984, and came out HIV -positive due to a pint of tainted blood that he received during the operation. Early last month, the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled that the organisation was negligent for not adopting tougher screening tests for AIDS contamination in donated blood. Snyder received US $405,000 in a six-to-one decision by the state's highest court. The blood bank which supplied the blood said that it was unfair to penalise it "with the knowledge that exists today" for decisions made more than a decade ago.
