Water supply and sanitation in India: meeting targets and beyond
This article provides an analysis of India’s progress on the safe water and sanitation access targets of the Millennium Development Goals. Despite significant reported progress on water access, a majority of the population do not have access to sanitation and resort to open defecation. Moreover, national figures hide significant disparities between regions, income and gender groups, as well as the availability of water supply on a daily basis.
