ANOTHER BREATHER
The Supreme Court of India recently extended its stay on demolition of aqua farms till July 31. The stay order on the closure of all aqua farms located within 500 metres of the coastline, was to expire on April 30. The judges passed the order while hearing a batch of petitions including one by the Union government seeking review of the case. The attorney general Ashok Desai argued that there were two conflicting reports of the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute, Nagpur, about the ecological repercussions of aqua farms, but the court had considered only one and hence the matter should be heard again.
