Wind power

Britain's National Wind Power will construct Europe's largest wind farm, Carno, in the Powys region of Wales which will generate forty-per cent of electricity needed for the region. Its 56 turbines can generate up to 33 MW of electricity, enough to cater to the needs of nearly 25,000 homes. Each wind turbine is 31.5 metres high at the hub and the three-bladed rotor is 44 metres in diameter. The grassy plateau at Carno covers an area of more than 600 ha and is used by more than 31 wind farms operating in Britain today. Some 40 per cent of Europe's total wind resource is generated in Britain ( Spectrum , May-June, 1997).
