ACT OR PAY

The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) of the US recently sued New York city for its failure to construct a filtration plant to clean its most polluted reservoirs in the east of the Hudson river which supply drinking water to the city. EPA could ask for more than US $27 million in penalties although its main aim is to force the city to construct the plant, which has been planned for more than 20 years and postponed due to disputes about the cost and location of the plant. City officials have chosen a site in Bronx but residents have opposed it.
