MINING WOES
The Shimla High Court has put the brakes on mining activitiesatKaljot, Naswana and Yol in Kangradistrict ofHimachal Pradesh. The court has already banned mining at Khaniara and Jaolidhar in Kangra. It gave its verdict recently on a public interest litigation regarding various aspects of operations causing irreparable damage 10 the ecology, environment and scenic beauty of various 1OWns in the state. Matters regarding illegal construction, mining and pollution being caused to riversiQthe state were referred to the commission constituted by the state government for investigation.
