The London High Court's recent intervention in a case could make the difference between life and death for an anorexic girl. In late April, she had won the right to be treated at a special adolescent unit for eating disorders after her parents were given a go-ahead by the High Court to summon their health authority before the bench.
The North West Lancashire Health Authority had earlier refused to refer the girl to Rhodes Farm in North London. Instead, 'it had told the girl's psychiatrist that she would have to go either to St George's Hospital in South London or Prestwich Hospital in Lancashire. The High Court has now given the parents the right to challenge the authority's refusal by a judicial review.
