SANCHA VIDYA Himachal Pradesh
This technique of making and preserving manuscripts has survived over a thousand years in several districts of Himachal Pradesh. But today, only a few people in Sirmour and Shimla districts can read and decipher Sancha Vidya. Written in Pavuchi script, a version of Brahmi, these contain tracts on astronomy, ethics, astrology, health and agriculture
The process: Sheets are made from wood pulp of local trees and treated with natural preservatives to enhance their durability. The manuscripts were bound in treated animal leather. Likewise, the pen used to write them was made with animal bones
