GREEN PROTEST
In an attempt to save the Dhanmondi lake in Dhaka, the Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association has issued legal notices to various officials of the ministry of housing and public works and the public works department. They have called for abandoning the construction of housing apartments on the green surroundings of the lake. The notice has warned that if the project is allowed to go on, it will seriously upset the ecological balance of the area. A similar project which proposed the filling up of a portion of the lake and its green space, was shelved in 1995 after strong protests from residents.
