Quite a few countries will attain targets of developing integrated water resources management by 2005 but many require further assistance
Many countries are on track to halve the population without access to safe drinking water by 2015 but progress is uneven and many countries may fail to meet the goal
Considerable number of countries are not on track of halving the proportion of people without access to basic sanitation by 2015, unless additional resources are raised.
Ministers welcomed the active participation of major groups throughout the session. They suggested that the example be followed in subsequent review sessions of the Commission.
Global sustainable development is a shared responsibility. Each country is responsible for its own progress in implementing the millennium development goals and for fulfiling the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation's targets and commitments.
Further development and implementation of the ecosystems approach was recognised as one of several options that should be promoted, depending on priorities and circumstances.
