An all-India survey on the situation of employment and unemployment in India was carried out as a part of the 66th round of the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) during the period July 2009 - June 2010. This nation-wide enquiry was conducted to provide estimates on various characteristics pertaining to employment and unemployment in India at the national and state levels. Based on the data collected during the entire period of survey, estimates of employment and unemployment in cities and towns of India along with certain features associated with them have been presented in this report. Tables have been generated for each of the twenty-seven class I cities (listed in Chapter 3) with population of one million or more (size class 1) as per Population Census 2001 and also for two other size classes of towns viz. those with population 50,000 to less than one million (size class 2) and those with population less than 50,000 (size class 3).
