To increase fertility!
Contrary to the high rates of population growth among most communities, India's Parsi community is facing gradual extinction in India. According to the Census data, the number of Parsis in India declined from 76,382 in the 1991 to 69,601 in 2001. "It is a clear, visible but extremely unfortunate decline of a rich civilization of Zoroastrians and its people,' observes the report.
The 2001 census recommends urgent and drastic interventions to ensure the survival of India's Parsi population. Demographer Ashish Bose is not overtly worried: "It's a rich, urban-centric community. If they are not interested in their community, there is no need to bother.'
