Collective failure
world Environment Day is observed each year on June 5 after the historical Stockholm Conference on Environment in 1972. The objective is to draw attention to some of the ways in which humanity is imperilling its own habitat and to emphasise the urgent need to change attitudes and behaviours. This year the theme was "Our Earth, Our Future-Just Save it'. Speaking on the occasion at Vigyan Bhavan, prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee said that it is imperative to focus attention on our collective failure to protect the environment. He appealed to the industry to act on its own and not wait for the government or judiciary to enforce environmental laws.
