Phasing-out Methyl Bromide in Developing Countries: a success story and its challenges
The UNEP OzonAction Branch has released a publication to promote south-south cooperation, addressing efforts to phase-out methyl bromide in developing countries, as well as challenges remaining. The publication, 'Phasing-out Methyl Bromide in Developing Countries: A success story and its challenges,' analyzes factors that may affect the continuity of methyl bromide phase-out and possible ways to mitigate them. It is hoped that the publication will facilitate information exchange on advanced technologies for materials, varieties, rootstocks, and to raise awareness on risk of reversibility of methyl bromide uses and encourage policy to avoid it happening. Under the Montreal Protocol, developing countries are required to phase out controlled uses of methyl bromide by 1 January 2015.
