Waste characterization study - Bangalore, 2014
Bangalore is at that stage in Solid waste management, where it is trying to come up with appropriate methods to handle waste. To make relevant decisions regarding handling and disposal of municipal solid waste, and to come up with appropriate waste heirarchy, it is important to understand the composition, properties and quantity of the waste generate. The information needs to be current and specific to the city because the composition of the waste has been constantly changing in recent times. This report gives an insight into the waste classification and is the first step for waste analysis. Scaling up of this study to a much larger area such as a city will involve more anomalies and complexities. A combination of both random and stratified sampling might have to be considered with statistical corrections. On a larger scale, appropriate boundary for waste type such as residential waste, industrial waste, construction and demolition waste, etc. should be pre-defined.
