LABOURING UNDER A BAN
The Damocles' sword of an import ban by the US has forced Bangladesh's garment industry sources to sack all child labour by October instead of phasing them out over the next 2 years, as planned initially. However, human rights activists are apprehensive about the decision to lay off child labour at such short notice and without alternative measures for their livelihood, particularly in a country like Bangladesh where millions of them work merely for survival.
