Take your discards elsewhere
Qingpu district government in Shanghai, China has staunchly refused to allow Loyalty Enterprises Group from operating an electronics recycling plant. It fears that the facility will damage the local environment. The plant was scheduled to begin operations by the end of last year.
Loyalty officials said, "The Shanghai Environmental Protection Bureau has already said our plant can be operated,' and added, "The plant's feasibility has been proven and we received all required documents except for the district government's for opening it.'
Nonetheless, the Qingpu district government has been steadfast in its refusal to allow the recycling plant, already constructed, to begin operations. The Shanghai Economic Commission and Shanghai Municipal Foreign Economic Relations and Trade Commission have dispatched officials to try and solve the dispute, but the delegations failed to solve the standstill.
The Shanghai Morning Post reported that a similar facility has begun pilot operations in Shanghai. It has signed contracts with Philips, Nokia, Canon, Panasonic and even some government departments, to dispose of their discarded electronics products.
