Best practices for clean energy access in Africa
The Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) and the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) have launched a publication showcasing successful examples of access to sustainable energy and services in Africa. The report, titled ‘Best Practices for Clean Energy Access in Africa', showcases innovative and affordable rural electrification solutions through 20 case studies from different countries in the region. The report aims to support energy decision-makers in developing locally-tailored market frameworks and entrepreneurs working to improve energy access in Africa through sharing experiences, intelligence and best practices of stakeholders from the public and private sectors. The publication also aims to enhance market conditions for the renewable energy industry by providing information for suitable regulatory, policy and financial frameworks. Case studies presented in the volume address: solar photovoltaic (PV) mini-grids for remote and rural communities in Nigeria; an off-grid electricity tariff model for renewable energy projects in Mozambique; capacity building on PV-diesel hybrid systems in Kenya; and a grid-tied battery backup for ATMs in Nigeria.
