shrimp facility:
Three farm-level antibiotic testing laboratories for aquaculture will be set up in Andhra Pradesh next year. The tests will help exporters check if the product meets international norms. Major shrimp exporters including China and Vietnam are equipped with testing facilities to check contamination. Exporters have earlier rejected Indian shrimp consignments for not meeting the norms on pesticide and antibiotic residue, leading to a fall in Indian seafood prices in the global market. The testing facilities are a joint venture of Seafood Exporters' Association of India and Marine Products Export Development Authority.
dow opaque:
Two Right to Information applications filed in July 2007 in Maharashtra and Gujarat on Dow's Indian operations have found few answers. The first was on the Maharashtra chief minister's meeting with Dow officials in the us in June 2007. The second appeal, seeking details of Gujarat Alkalies and Chemicals Limited's tie-up with Dow Chemicals, was also grounded. "In this regard, we would like to inform you that the provisions of Right to Information Act, 2005 are not applicable to our company,' said an official of Gujarat Alkalies.
