PDS handover
The Rajasthan government has transferred to Panchayati Raj institutions the power to control and manage the Public Distribution System (PDS) in rural areas. The development officers of all Panchayat Samitis now have the power to issue authorisation letters to fair price shops and cancel them if their terms and conditions have been violated. The shops will be required to submit records of receipts and distribution of foodgrains to village panchayats. Up to 237 inspectors will be appointed in Zila Parishads to monitor the implementation of this decision.
