Just coming into focus
Diseases that affect the poorest of people are usually neglected. Since the poor do not have the capacity to pay for treatment, the pharmaceutical industry and researchers do not invest on these diseases. The Commission on Health Research for Development categorises those diseases as neglected which affect 90 per cent of people but get only 10 per cent of research funding
