The fifa F ootball World Cup 2006 in Germany is set to go green with the Green Goal Initiative (ggi), a project of the event's organising committee. ggi seeks to reduce the sport's environmental impact by targeting four key areas: water, refuse, energy and mobility. The aim is to reduce water and energy use and refuse quantities by 20 per cent. An agreement on ggi was recently signed by the United Nations Environment Programme (unep), the German Football Association (dfb) and the German government.
