Holding fast
Medha Patkar of the Narmada Bachao Andolan continues her fast in the intensive care unit of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (aiims), New Delhi. She has been fasting since March 29, 2006,in protest against raising the height of the Sardar Sarovar dam on the river Narmada. Patkar was forcibly taken to aiims by the police on April 5. She refuses to receive intravenous saline drip and says the fast would continue till affected families were properly rehabilitated. Three Union ministers had left for Madhya Pradesh on April 6, to inspect the displaced villages and resettlement sites in Badwani district.
