Kansas Board of Education in the us state of Kansas has redefined the origin of life. The board ruled that science classes in public schools should teach Intelligent Design (id), which casts doubts on Darwin's theory of evolution.
id advocates that the universe is too complex to have evolved and so must have been created by a higher power. The board's decision was based on recent fossil evidence, which challenge the Darwinian theory that all living beings have a common origin and that natural chemical processes created the building blocks of life. Opponents of id say it was an attempt to inject God and creationism in schools in violation of the separation of church and state, while proponents say it will promote academic freedom. The board redefined science, no longer limiting it to the search for natural explanations of phenomena.
