Technical report on Karachi heat wave June 2015
The anticipated rise in temperatures and frequency of heat waves in the country demands a comprehensive strategy to cope with this type of disastrous events in future. This report recommends the establishment of Heat-Health Warning System (HHWS) targeting the vulnerable segment of the urban centers. This warning system will have essential components of Monitoring and warning service, dissemination and communication of the heat-wave risk to the communities and enhancing their response capability to better cope with this situation. Several key actors are identified in this report with their possible role in establishing and contributing to the HHWS. The report, finally outlines some important recommendations to the decision makers that would ensure that heat-wave hazard will be tackled effectively in the future.
