Question raised in Rajya Sabha on Human-wildlife conflict in country, 13/08/2015. Incidences of human-wildlife conflict are reported in various parts of the country from time to time. As the management of forest and wildlife is the responsibility of State/Union Territory Governments, studies on human-wildlife conflict has not been undertaken at the national level. Whereas, various organizations/institutes undertake studies on human-wildlife conflict of diverse nature in different States/regions. Ministry has not received any report of the study/survey conducted by State Government of Tamilnadu human-wildlife conflict. In order to support farmers and victims of depredations/attacks by wild animals, State Governments provide ex-gratia relief for farmers in respect of damage to crops and loss of human lives from their own funds as well from the assistance provided by Central Government. The amount of ex-gratia relief eligible for assistance under the Centrally Sponsored Schemes for payment to the victims of predation/depredation by wild animals is at Annexure I. The rates of compensation to the victims of predation/depredation by wild animals in Tamilnadu is at Annexure II.
