UNJUSTIFIED LAW
The European Commission (EC) will file a lawsuit against Germany in the European Court of Justice in a bid to get a German law amended. The German packaging regulation 1998, EC claims, is discriminatory and unfavourable for foreign mineral water producers. It exempts mineral water bottles from a recycling charge if 72 per cent of packaging is returned to producers for reuse. This forces foreign firms to bring back empty bottles over long distances for refilling.
