Health disorders due to organochlorines (OCs) are common in India. In 1981, researchers from Lucknow-based Industrial Toxicology Research Centre (ITRC) found that females prone to spontaneous abortion had seven times more concentration of OC pesticides than those who had a full-term pregnancy. During 2003, ITRC researchers established an association between OCs and foetal growth retardation. In another study, researchers from the Mahavir Hospital and Research Centre, Hyderabad, studied 53 men.
