Livestock Ownership in India: NSS 70th Round (January – December, 2013)

The National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), as a part of its 70th round during the period January 2013 - December 2013, carried out an all India household survey on the situation of Land and Livestock Holdings in India. In this survey, a nation-wide household enquiry was conducted to generate estimates of various characteristics pertaining to Land and Livestock Holdings at the national and State/UT levels. Information on various facets of Land and Livestock Holdings in India was collected through a schedule of enquiry (Schedule 18.1) adopting the established concepts, definitions and procedures. Based on the data collected during the entire period of survey, estimates of various characteristics pertaining to Land Holdings for each State/UT and all India have been presented in this report. This report is based on the information on livestock ownership of the households collected during the Land and Livestock Holdings Survey (LHS) conducted in the 70th round of NSS during January 2013 to December 2013. The survey was conducted only in the rural areas of the country.
