Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding garbage dumping in Deepor Beel, Kamrup District, Assam, 13/05/2016
Order of the National Green Tribunal (Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata) in the matter of Rohit Choudhury Vs Union of India & Others dated 13/05/2016 regarding dumping of municipal solid waste (MSW) on the Deepor Beel, Kamrup District, Assam.
Tribunal notes that the affidavit filed by the State of Assam lacks in details including demarcation of the Deepor wetland and also that the alternative land provided for disposal of municipal solid wastes is only 20 bighas against the earlier 120 bighas. NGT directed that the General Manager, North East Frontier Railway, Maligaon, Guwahati, Assam, be impleaded as Respondent also as the railway link passes near the water body.
