One Hundred and Ninety Eighth Report on Disaster in Chennai caused by torrential rainfall and consequent flooding in the country
The Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, present this One Hundred and Ninety Eighth Report on 'Disaster in Chennai caused by torrential rainfall and consequent flooding in the Country'. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) the apex body, which functions under the administrative jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs, is responsible for tackling all emergent situations arising out of natural disasters. The unprecedented torrential rain in Chennai and the havoc created by it opened a gamut of issues concerning the preparedness of the Country to fight out such eventualities so as to protect civic life, property, monuments & heritage sites and most importantly the vital institutions and installations located in the affected city. As per the mandate of the Committee it took up examination of relief and rehabilitation works in Chennai after the floods of 2015.
