Question raised in Rajya Sabha on Air pollution in the National Capital, 28/11/2016. The air pollution in National Capital Region (NCR) reached severe category as per Air Quality Index (AQI) recently during Diwali and first week of November, 2016. The rise in air pollution, predominantly with respect to PM2.5, can be attributed to meteorological conditions like low temperature, poor wind speed and low mixing height, in addition to the major contributing factors like road dust, vehicular emissions, construction and demolition activities, gensets, industrial emissions, garbage burning, stubble burning, hot mix plants, brick kilns etc. The meteorological data and PM2.5 concentration in Delhi from October 1 to November 10 compared for the years 2015 and 2016 is annexed. Air pollution is known to be one of the aggravating factors for respiratory ailments and cardiovascular diseases.
