International IP Index 2017: the roots of innovation

India continues to languish near the bottom in an international intellectual property index, ranking 43rd out of 45 global economies, according to a report by the US Chamber of Commerce's Global Intellectual Property Center (GIPC). The GIPC also highlighted the need for the government to build upon the positive rhetoric of its IPR policy with the substantial legislative reforms that innovators need. This is the fifth year in a row that India has been ranked at the bottom of the pack in the index. However, the 2017 report, titled 'The Roots of Innovation', represents a slight improvement in its performance as the country was ranked last or next-to-last in the last four years.
