Bangladesh disaster management reference handbook
This handbook provides an overview of natural hazards, climate change susceptibility, disaster management and response in Bangladesh. It provides analysis of government disaster plans and policies and community preparedness. The handbook highlights the growing concern of the impacts of climate change, including sea level rise and human displacement, and places particular emphasis on the need to improve physical infrastructure, the supply and distribution of safe water, and the continued implementation of mitigration and preparedness measures. It identifies the remaining challenges to disaster management, including the need to strengthen relationships between government ministries, the military and other relevant organisations; improve the replication, scaling and financing of DRR and climate change adaptation approaches; creating a disaster response plan that is integrated with Dhaka city corporations, the national government and relevant organisations; and integrating gender-specific needs and programming into disaster management.
