Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding pollution caued by Saravana Fine Yarns, Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu, 06/07/2017

Order of the National Green Tribunal (Southern Zone, Chennai) in the matter of Vivasayam Mattrum Suttrusoozhal Vs State of Tamil Nadu & Others dated 06/07/2017 regarding pollution caused by a dyeing unit, Dindigul District, Tamil Nadu. The applicant which is a Registered Society consisting farmers of of Eluvanampatti Panchayat, Kottarpatti and Kodangi Nagar Villages have alleged that after the establishment of the industry, agricultural operations in the area has come to a halt and all the lands in the above said villages were damaged due to the discharge of trade effluents from the factory which has resulted in reduction of yield from the land since water in the land has become contaminated and salinated.

The Applicant farmers have also asked Saravana Fine Yarns to pay the cost for the reclamation of land to the farmers of Dindigul and Theni Districts. The farmers also asked for a reconsideration of the Award passed by the Loss of Ecology Authority dated 15/11/2011.

NGT disposes of the Application because of lack of sufficient material produced by the Applicant farmers before the Loss of Ecology Authority and that there is no reason to hold that the Authority is wrong in having acted as per the scientific report of the Experts.
