  • 26/07/2017

Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of M. C. Mehta Vs Union of India & Others dated 26/07/2017 regarding air pollution caused by bursting of fire crackers. The Court noted that no standards have been laid down by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) with regard to air pollution caused by bursting of fire crackers and it is also not clear whether "Petroleum & Explosives Safety Organization (PESO) is capable of determining the extent of air pollution that could be caused by bursting of fire crackers". Counsel for the State of NCT of Delhi submitted before the Court that within three weeks a vigorous campaign will be started in the schools in Delhi to inform the children about the hazardous and ill-effects of the indiscriminate bursting of fire crackers.
