Increasing financial flows for urban sanitation
In 2017, the World Water Council started a project that aims at identifying the most appropriate financial mechanisms that could better support the development of the sanitation sector throughout the world. The goal of this analysis is to raise awareness about innovative financing instruments to increase sanitation provisions in complement to traditional ones and to involve more actors in the national sanitation financing plans. The report related to this work, entitled Increasing Financial Flows for Urban Sanitation, the 8 contributing case studies, and the Policy Recommendations will be shared at the 8th World Water Forum. The publication first discusses what urban sanitation could look like by 2030, then examines how that sanitation would be financed, and finally identifies what decision-makers can do in order to increase financial flows.
