Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding pollution caused to River Beas and Satluj due to pollutants being discharged from industries, Punjab, 24/05/2018
THE National Green Tribunal (NGT) on May 24, 2018 directed the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) to visit the spots affected by pollution in rivers Sutlej, Beas and the Budda Nala and submit a report in six weeks.
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Sukpal Singh Khaira Vs Union of India & Others dated 24/05/2018 regarding severe pollution caused to River Beas and Satluj due to pollutants being discharged from industries which has resulted in the destruction of aquatic life, flora and fauna.
National Green Tribunal directs the Central Pollution Control Board and State Pollution Control Board to conduct joint inspections of the areas indicated in the application, collect samples from both the rivers including the spots alleged in the application. The collection point shall be upstream and downstream and from the discharge point and also from the drain namely Buddha Nalla. Report of the samples collected shall be prepared by the joint inspection team. The inspection team shall visit the areas in question and submit a report on the death of aquatic animal as indicated in the petition and whether it is related to the alleged pollution and if so, identify the source of pollution/polluters.
