Agricultural innovations, production, and household welfare in Africa

Although the impact of the adoption of agricultural innovations has been the subject of extensive investigations, its relationship with indicators of farm production and household welfare remains ambiguous in the context of sub-Saharan Africa. This study contributes to the literature by conducting a meta-regression analysis of 92 studies published between 2001 and 2015 in the sub-Saharan African region on this issue. Overall, the empirical results from this meta-analysis suggest that the adoption of agricultural innovations have a positive and significant effect on farm production and household welfare. However, the magnitude of the impact is relatively small, which also suggests a weak relationship.
