Order of the Supreme Court of India in the matter of Common Cause Vs Union of India & Others dated 24/07/2018 regarding violation of environmenal and forest clearances and resultant compensation. The report submitted by CEC dated 17/01/2018 states that the compensation assessed in terms of the judgment and order passed by the Supreme Court works out to Rs.17417.99 crores for violation of the environmental clearance and an amount of Rs.1756.39 crores for violation of the forest clearance.

In terms of the status report as on 31st December, 2017, the amount received by the Government of Odisha from the mining lessees is Rs.8289.87 crores from 82 mines which is less than 50%. Supreme Court directs State of Odisha to file an affidavit indicating the amount recovered and steps taken to recover the balance amount.
