Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding Ganga river pollution, 27/07/2018

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of M. C. Mehta Vs Union of India & Others dated 27/07/2018 on the issue of pollution in River Ganga including the dimensions of industrial and sewage pollution. National Green Tribunal directs the CPCB and UPPCB to regularly display the results of tests of samples of water at various locations. NGT has been informed that there are 36 real-time monitoring stations and 94 manual monitoring stations. It is expected that at least at one place within 100 kms points where interaction of persons take place with river Ganga and also on the websites of the NMCG, CPCB, UPPCB information must be displayed. The Court has been further informed that the "situation is so alarming that from Haridwar to Kolkata the water is neither fit for consumption nor for bathing".
