Food security to figure high in SAARC summit

Creation of the SAARC food bank may take centre stage in the next summit of South Asian leaders as sky-high grain prices put the regional food security at stake, officials said. South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation leaders in their 14th summit in New Delhi signed a deal on establishment of a regional food bank with an initial stock of 2.5 lakh tonnes of grains to respond to exigencies in the member countries, home to two-thirds of world poor.
