Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding use of short life PVC and chlorinated plastic, 01/03/2019
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of W. Edwin Willson Vs Union of India & Others dated 01/03/2019. Prayer in this application is to direct Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) and States to prohibit short life PVC and chlorinated plastic which includes banners, hoarding etc. used for promotion and advertising and other incidental directions. The applicant claims to have addressed letter dated 29.01.2019 to the Secretary, MoEF&CC seeking directions to all the State Governments/UTs and Election Commission under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 for imposing complete prohibition of PVC hoarding / banners/ flexes by implementing and complying with the environmental norms but no response is available.
NGT while disposing of the application said the matter may first be considered in a joint meeting of representatives of Election Commission of India, MoEF&CC and CPCB at the earliest, preferably within one week in such manner as may be found viable.
