The issue for consideration in these matters relates to massive air and water pollution caused by illegal scrap business at Maya Puri causing toxic fumes. Chemicals and oils, etc. are emitted, severely affecting air, water quality and public health. It was found that even against industrial units found to be engaged in illegal activities, no adequate action had been taken. Moreover, the number of illegally operating units identified in the said category could not be accepted as a correct number. Correct number may be much more. NGT finds the approach of DPCC to be deplorable and not as per the mandate of law.
The Chief Secretary, Delhi states that the steps are now being taken to improve the situation, including the working of DPCC. The Chief Secretary has undertaken to look into the present matter and to positively furnish a separate report in the matter before the next date of hearing (11/04/2019).
