Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Vipin Goyal Vs State of Uttar Pradesh dated 26/04/2019 regarding water pollution caused by cloth dyeing and printing industry at M.G Road, Industrial Area Block, Dhaulana, District Hapur, Uttar Pradesh.
An action taken report submitted by the Uttar Pradesh State Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) acknowledged that industrial effluents and sewage are being discharged into the drain connecting Hindon River which is broken at many places. Overflow of the effluents is collected in vacant plots. Counsel for the UPPCB states that after the above report was submitted, there is further development that UPSIDC has initiated remedial action on being asked by UPPCB. The UPPCB would monitor the compliance of the environmental norms and furnish a further report to the Tribunal after three months.
Counsel for the UPPCB further states that this problem is faced by most of the industrial areas in Uttar Pradesh. When industrial areas are set up, requisite infrastructure for scientific discharge of effluents is not being developed. The NGT asks this aspect be considered by the Chief Secretary, Uttar Pradesh and remedial measures be taken in respect of areas already set up as well as the areas which may be set up later.
