Order of the National Green Tribunal regarding road projects threatening tiger corridors, Maharashtra, 01/08/2019
Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of News item published in "The Times of India" Authored by Vijay Pinjarkar Titled "String of new road projects in Maha to cut off tiger corridors" dated 01/08/2019. The issue for consideration is obstruction of tiger corridors by new road projects in the State of Maharashtra. It is reported that the necessary steps and precautions in such road projects for protection of environment and wildlife are lacking.
Vide order dated 26.03.2019, after considering the report submitted by the Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (Wildlife), Maharashtra, the Tribunal directed the Additional Director General Forest (Wildlife), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) and Director, Project Tiger to have an action plan prepared and to oversee execution of such plan and furnish an action taken report. A report has been furnished on 29.07.2019 by the Deputy Inspector General of Forest (NTCA) stating that draft action plan has been prepared which is required to be agreed upon by the other stakeholders for which more time is required.
NGT directs the necessary steps to be taken in the matter and a report filed by October 31, 2019.
